The artist talk and reading followed Merve’s stay at Artscape Gibraltar Point, where she completed the Toronto leg of THE ISLANDS Fall/Winter residency. Merve had spent the previous month on Fogo Island.
Ünsal’s writing for THE ISLANDS uses text and material practices to explore correlations between art language and military vocabulary. Ünsal was the second resident of THE ISLANDS, a two-part residency developed by Art Metropole and Fogo Island Arts that aims to encourage arts writing and criticism in contemporary art.
