Listening to SALT Beyoglu, 2018
View of SALT Beyoglu from Istiklal Avenue during The Universe Flickers (2018).
To compose Listening to SALT Beyoğlu, a five-channel audio installation, we installed contact microphones in various locations of the building, recording the resonances of different architectural elements over the course of two days: one when the institution was open to the public and one when it was closed. The infrastructures of the building, the staff, and the public—inside and outside of the building—were thus indirectly recorded. We created a composition from these recordings. To further the feeling of meandering along these elements, temporally and spatially, one channel was installed at Forum [foyer at the entrance to the building from the street].
Recording, editing, composition, and conceptual framework in collaboration with Atay İlgün.
